Welcome To The Lift
Hey there,
Something I keep seeing in Half Moon this week: people trying to get to the pose before they've built the pose.
They jump straight for the balance. One hand comes down, the back leg lifts, and then everything starts wobbling, not because their balance is bad, but because they skipped the foundation. They didn't build the ground before they tried to leave it.
You can't skip the ground.
Here's what the build actually looks like. You start in Extended Triangle. The side body opens. The chest starts to rotate. One hand reaches low and one arm reaches up toward the sky. You're not lifting yet. You're just making space - finding the length that doesn't exist unless you ask for it.
That length is the whole thing. Triangle isn't a warmup for Half Moon. Triangle is Half Moon with both feet on the floor. Same rotation. Same side-body opening. Same line through the body. Just anchored differently.
When the length is real and the ground is secure, Half Moon becomes possible. You don't jump to it. You grow into it.
This is also a pretty good framework for the rest of your life.
There are things we rush because we want the result without the foundation. Relationships. Projects. Practices. We want the open, lifted version before we've done the Triangle work, before we've found the length. And then we wonder why it feels unstable.
The ground isn't the obstacle. The ground is the point.
Sutra 1.33 is still with us: friendliness, compassion, joy, equanimity. If you've been sitting with the question, what am I ready to let back in? The ground you've been building all spring is exactly what makes it safe to answer.
Walk slowly. Just don't walk backwards.
See you on the floor. Annie
